He did a spectacular job in defense".

Tonight, at 10 pm, Estadi Son Moix de Mallorca receives Barça on matchday 28. A giant step towards achieving, little by little, the return to that normalcy that the coronavirus has taken from us. It will be, for all this, a special match.

It has been three long months without football, surely the least important of the important things. But we missed it. Yes? Maybe because football is part of our lives. We need that adrenaline, identify with colors, a shield, shout “goooool” and even be sad when our team loses.

First win

We are slowly emerging from a devastating, unexpected health crisis that has changed our lives. Much or little, it has affected us. It has left behind a lot of pain, it has taken away loved ones, it has caused an earthquake in the productive fabric, in the economy, but we are gaining this pulse and we will move forward. Insurance.

And that here and now we are talking about football, the return of Barça to the league of stars, is a sign that we already see the light at the end of the tunnel, that we are coming out of this nightmare, that we are going to defeat the virus. Finally, the league. It is not the desired normality, many uncertainties invade us, but the reality is that ninety-seven after Barça-Real Sociedad (1-0) played at the Camp Nou on March 7, the leader of the League, the defender of the title , return to the playing fields. It will do so, like the rest of the competitors, under strict sanitary security measures, following a rigid protocol to avoid the slightest risk of contagion. In fact they have been like this for more than three weeks, when they returned to training.

With Luis Suárez

LaLiga returned on Thursday with the Sevilla-Betis derby. We were able to see what feeling and effect causes playing without the heat of the public. At least, everyone is on equal footing, as it has been to return directly to competition without having been able to play a single friendly match … or training.

This long break has only had a beneficial effect for FC Barcelona, although we would have liked not to have to talk about it: the return of Luis Suárez. The Uruguayan underwent surgery in January for an injury to the external meniscus of his right knee and these three months of break have served him to recover properly and face the eleven League games that remain, plus the Champions League, in optimal conditions. Even Quique Setién acknowledged on Sunday on television that Suárez is much better than the technical staff thought and yesterday he said that he will probably start tonight against Mallorca.

Messi’s motivation

As reported by SPORT a few weeks ago, Setién was pleasantly impressed by the physical and motivational level of the squad on his return to activity. He saw his pupils plugged in and very hungry for titles. So much so that he told Josep Maria Bartomeu, when the president visited them at the Ciutat Esportiva, that he saw in their eyes that they could win the League again and even win the Champions League.

Tonight begins that intense race towards those goals. In less than fifty days, the champion will defend his crown in eleven games that, for now, will be played without an audience. We’ll see if the competent authorities, the Higher Sports Council, authorize the opening of the stadiums in the final stretch of the League, which will end the third week of July.

What we do know is that if there is a motivated, intense footballer who is going to leave his skin in the attempt, that is Leo Messi. The Barça captain yesterday posted a motivational video on his Instagram account in which he said: “Being away from the courts made me think. Like any other player, I just want to play again. Why play for a prize. And with the people who follow, it’s even cuter. Inspire others and let others inspire us. Perhaps the most important cup of all … is to bring happiness to all. So now that football is back, I’m ready to go for that cup again. “

Messi returns to the field tonight where he achieved his first official goal with the Barça shirt as a visitor. And the Barça, eight years later, returns to visit Mallorca. Incentives that help the party have all the appeal it deserves. It will be a league without an audience and with the great novelty of being able to make five substitutions per game, but what never changes is that Barça has the obligation to win.

Back to the desert. After a year marked by the global Covid-19 pandemic, the entry into 2021 will bring back the toughest test in world motorsport, the Dakar Rally. In it, for the third consecutive time, Joan Font will try to reach the goal of the event that will start on January 2 in Saudi Arabia.

Dec 28, 2020 at 10:26 am CET @sport

“It is a miracle that we are running the Dakar again”, affirms the driver from Vic. “It has been a very rare and complicated year due to the pandemic, but by putting a lot of desire and enthusiasm we have been able to save the project at the last minute. We managed to renew the program with the FN Speed Team and we will race again in the T2 category with a Toyota Land Cruiser. “” The preparation of the car has been done in Automotor 4×4, a preparer with a lot of experience in raids with which we have installed improvements in the suspensions and the engine. We have been testing the Toyota a lot in Murcia and we are confident. The career approach will be to go from less to more ”, adds a relieved Font, since the project, a few months ago, seemed almost impossible to carry out.

In this way, the experienced Catalan driver will contest his second consecutive Dakar with the Japanese car, which in 2020 took him to third place in the category reserved for diesel series vehicles. “Last year only the official Toyota of our class beat us. For this Dakar I expect a very tough, demanding rally again, in which resistance will prevail. We will have to go stage by stage, but we know that we are much better prepared than in 2020 and we have a year of racing in the dunes with this car, ”explains an optimistic Joan Font.

With the good experience of the last edition, Font expects a Dakar 2021 as or more demanding than the previous one. In addition, to his right, there will be a new co-driver, Sergi Brugué, who will be a good support in the face of possible incidents in one of the FN Speed Team vehicles during the race.

“He is an excellent mechanic, he is also a lifelong co-driver, with a lot of experience in rallies and raids in Morocco. It will be his first Dakar, but he has a high level for all his previous background accompanying great drivers. We are super close, we have a good time together inside the car and I think that between the two of us we will form a good team to do our best, ”explains the Osona man about his new co-driver.

After completing more than 50% of the stages at night in the last Dakar, Joan Font does not want to imagine much beyond the first special next year: “You have to go day by day. In such a long rally, where so many things can happen every day, you don’t have to think about the future. My goal is already accomplished: which is to be on the starting podium. Obviously we will do our best to complete the more than 7,000 km of the test ”.

The 2021 Dakar Rally will get underway on January 2 with the formal start and the dispute of a prologue in the city of Jeddah before the twelve scheduled stages that will total 7,646 kilometers, 4,767 of them against the clock. “I am super excited and motivated, we are going to have fun,” says Joan Font convinced before leaving for Saudi Arabia.

The coronavirus has led to the confinement of the majority of the population as the infection is highly contagious. Athletes are some of the people who are also in quarantine and are starring in many curious images these days at home, inventing challenges and challenges to pass the time.
